Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures | The Canadian Flag | Man in Blue | Faces of the Games

Patriotism in Vancouver has never been so obvious and so awesome – ever. Everywhere you look, it’s Canada, Canada, Canada and the Olympics has without a doubt brought our big ol’country that much closer. At the very least, the people in Vancouver have been brought that much closer.

So, for Faces of the Games today, we’re waving the flag today and popping up a picture of somebody doing just that!

Swedes At The Olympics | SVT | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

Why would we take a picture of these two random dudes, you’re asking? Well, the guy on the right is the King of Sweden’s son a TV reporter for SVT. SVT is more or less the CBC of Sweden!

These Swedes were chilling out in Horseshoe Bay taking in the rays. Like most other people right now, they are shocked at how warm it is in a city that is hosting the Winter Olympics. But, again like everyone else, they’re loving it!

Tack tack tack! Kanske vi kommer se er på TV en dag!

Swedes At The Olympics | Ocean Guys | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

These two guys are from Sweden and apparently it’s warmer here then it is over there! This picture was taken at Ambleside in West Vancouver on a very balmy +15 afternoon. This weather is ridiculous eh? All Winter Olympics should be held in countries where you can swim in the ocean and have beers on patios (in t-shirts!).

Tack så mycket gubbar! Lycka till i OS!

Anti / Pro Games | Example 2 | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

For our anti / pro Olympic post this time, we picked out a couple of lovely ladies. Anti or pro, lovely nonetheless.

On the left, we have a couple ladies embracing their country and screaming with Olympic pride. On the right, we have a lady hating on an international organizing committee.

You choose which side you’re on folks. It feels a little bit like drawing a line in the sand and picking a political party eh?

Peaceful protesters, peaceful party-goers – It’s all good in our books. So for today’s theme, we’re throwing on our diplomacy hat and giving them equal exposure on our Faces of the Games site.

The masked man on the left was out front of the Vancouver Art Gallery during a anti-Games protest last week. It was a raucous affair indeed! One tip that a little bird whispered in our ear though somewhere along the line is that un-masked protesters are apparently more respected then masked ones. Go figure.

The lovely girl on the right was part of an equally raucous – yet fun-lovin’ – in Yaletown right before opening ceremonies. They were waving the kind of ‘fun flag’ that is blowing over the entire city!

Game Faces | Faces of the Games

Looks like our idea has inspired something very similar called “Games Faces”. We’re not sure who the person doing it is, but high-five for taking our idea and putting some sort (?) of twist on it.

We’re not making this post out of spite, flattery, happiness – anything. We’re only making this post to make it crystal clear that we have nothing to do with whoever is doing it, nor are our pictures associated with his / hers / theirs. This is important for us to mention because we take a lot of pride in our photography and we do not want our style or work associated in any way with theirs.

Nonetheless, we were sort of surprised to see it out there, but that’s life. You can see “Games Faces” on BC Business Online and Granville Online.

So, if you see “Game Faces” out there on the Internet, It’s not us! Those aren’t our pictures!

Celebrity | Wally Buono | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

“Hi, my name is Wally Buono. When I’m not coaching the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, I’m checking the Faces of the Games photography project, booking wedding and photography shoots with Nordica Photography, and cheering for all the Canadian contestants at the 2010 Winter Games.”

Mr. Buono didn’t say all that, but we’re sure he would have if he got to know us.

But, he did allow us to take his picture and for that we thank him! Hopefully he coaches the Lions to a Grey Cup next season! Go Lions!

Robson Street | Karate Kid | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

So we decided to jazz things up a little bit today and put in something a little bit different. It’s still a face, it’s still sort of tied to the Olympics but overall we just think it’s damn cool.

This man was doing what could amount to ‘alternative busking’ or something. Basically, thousands of people were heading down Robson Street towards the opening ceremonies. This guy wanted to get some attention for an event he was hosting (a play?) so was handing out tickets. But, he wasn’t just handing out tickets, he was doing what you see below first. Pretty cool!

Main & Hastings Torch Relay | The Singer | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

This was another gentleman that we bumped into on the corner of Main and Hastings while the torch relay was shaking down. This man seemed super spiritual to us for some reason.

We say that because behind him you can see the red tents and those tents were the symbol that a lot of the protesters were using to voice their argument. While they were doing their chants, waving their signs and hoisting this red tent, this man was more or less meandering in front of them and doing some singing of his own. The singing sounded very traditional for the aboroginal people of the West Coast, and it was really neat to listen to him do this while the sounds of the protesters were in the background.

He was a very kind man though, very friendly and we appreciate him letting us take his picture!

Main & Hastings Torch Relay | The Painter | Faces of the Games – Vancouver 2010 Olympic Pictures

This man was standing on the corner of Main and Hastings during the Torch Relay that cruised through on the opening day of the Olympics. While some people at the event had a lot of (negative) things to say in that area, this man was pretty darn jovial about the whole thing.

He is a painter and told us that recently, a short documentary styled movie had been made about his paintings by a company in Toronto! We asked him to pop his paint brush in his mouth for a picture, and boom he did it! Pretty cool stuff!

Thank you for letting us take your picture and good luck with your future paintings.
