Many months ago, Jill and Ryan contacted us to line up a couple session for June 21st. We’re talking last November they emailed us, and the session had to be on June 21st.

It’s their anniversary, you see, and they’re doing photos every year on their big day.

We think that’s awesome, and good on these two for doing this. It’d be cool to see how their pictures evolve over their many years of marriage together.

This session was done in our favourite Vancouver neighbourhood for photography, East Vancouver.

I am wondering if you are free March 5th 2011 to photograph a fabulous love affair.

That was the first line in the email we received many months ago from Hannah and Mike, and there was a trace of flare in the inquiry jumped off the page.

Well the flare was there, and then some, on their wedding day and they left no stone unturned. There was a dash of culture from Mike’s Irish roots, there was the colossal elegance of the church, and there was a hell of a party at the reception.

It really was a perfect wedding day, and hats off to Hannah for putting it all together without a wedding planner. As Mike accurately described, Hannah was the “Donald Trump of wedding planners” down to the finest detail, she did a ballin’ job creating her perfect wedding day.

Hannah and Mike, who you may remember from the Vogue Theatre Engagement session, were recently married in Gastown.

It was an over-the-top, extravagantly awesome, and elegant wedding in every possible way.

Amy and Jerman contacted us and wanted to do a shoot on Granville Island. This is probably one of the most (over)used locations for engagement and wedding photos in Vancouver, so it’s tricky to be unique.

But we did our best.

Animals seem to enjoy photobombing our sessions. We had cows bumping uglies during a wedding a while ago and at Christy and Gordon’s recent engagement session in Steveston, a very large dog decided to take part in the photos.

Christy and Gordon will be getting married next year at the Vancouver Club.

Before hiring us to photograph his daughter’s wedding in Cache Creek, Ken had a few insightful questions.

Ken wanted to know whether “Jakob and Cole” did more then just take pictures together (we answered “no”), if we were comfortable with the drive north (we answered “yes”), if we could handle the heat of the Interior throughout the day (we answered “yes”), and other such details.

Questions answered, answers affirmed, and the date was set.

We knew two things at that point. The name of the bride’s father was Ken, and we were heading to Cache Creek (which is a four hour drive north of Vancouver).

So we showed up on his 100 acre plot not knowing the bride’s name, the groom’s name, what the venue would be like, how big the wedding would be, and all the details in between.

To be thrown amidst a western-inspired, do it yourself wedding in the +28°C heat of the Bonaparte completely unknowing of what to expect turned out to be a hell of an experience. We wouldn’t have changed a thing.
