“Don’t celebrate the attainment of the summit, celebrate the style of the climb”

You know the kind of days when the ground smells of a freshly beaten rain? That’s how it smelled on Meagan and Chad’s wedding due to the flash showers that pounded the Mayan Riviera resort, near Cancun in Mexico.

The situation was as such: No rain for the ceremony (thankfully), but monsoon right after our five minute portrait session with the bride and the groom (not so thankfully).

So our situation at that point was very straightforward. The weather wasn’t cooperative: figure it out. The lighting wasn’t mint: figure it out. We couldn’t see a thing through our cameras because they were covered in water: figure it out.

The style of this climb was seeing the actions of the group when that rain storm hit. You can’t predict or plan those types of moments, and those were the moments we’ll remember from this wedding.

The song used in this slideshow was the song played after Meagan and Chad walked away from the wedding ceremony as husband and wife.

La Belle Bride and Million Little Details

For the photography shoot, we all agreed that having her kids in the photo shoot would be much more fun, so they came along as well! Well, they didn’t just come along, they pretty much ran the show.

We met in New Westminster, and it was a beauty of a time eh. We’re just popping up these two for now as a wee teaser, and the rest’ll be up later in the week.

Oh yeah!

Here’s the video we created for the contest that Scarlett won. It pretty much explains what she won and how she did so, so have a wee gander if you have a couple minutes.

If you have met the Nordica crew, you probably have met Therese as well. She’s Cole’s girlfriend who he coaxed (along with Jakob!) over from Sweden a while ago. Therese also went to Umeå University and studied accounting there. So, she does our accounting and finances, and without her, we’d be a very disorganized couple of fellas.

Tomorrow, she is running in the BMO Vancouver Marathon. She decided that this was going to be the year that she ran in her first marathon, and boom, she’s sticking to her goal. She’s doing the half-marathon, but that’s till 22 KM further then we’re running tomorrow!

So, lycka till Therese! We’re proud of you!

This particular shower was in South Vancouver at a beautiful home. It was a very cozy, intimate and family affair, and the bride and groom were beaming only a few weeks before their wedding. They are having a destination wedding outside of Vancouver, and judging by how great they were looking and the organization invovled with this wedding shower, we have no doubt they will have a picture-perfect wedding.

Our photo session with Greg Mueller was a wee bit surreal in a way. We at Nordica are poker maniacs, so the fact that we had one of the best in the world working with us was so awesome, it was almost unbelievable. Deep down though, we just wanted to whip out a poker table and play with the guy. Or at least try to if we could afford the buy-ins!

An additional reason why we were so stoked to photograh him was his history with hockey. I (Cole) played junior hockey for many years. It was my life throughout my teens and had me suitcased all over North America. So whenever you meet up with a hockey guy, there’s always that “understanding” so to speak of what it means to be shipped around and live away from home at such a young age. However, the level of respect for Greg shoots through the roof when you consider he made the jump to being a professional (in Germany, no less) straight out of Junior A. That’s totally unheard of. Basically, that’s the equivalent of picking up a camera, fiddling around with it for a month, then boom – you’re doing a photoshoot with someone like, well, Greg Mueller.

So Greg is now a poker pro, but that’s the tip of the iceberg. He’s also a restaurant owner (Players Chop House), he’s dipped his toes into modelling and acting, and he accomplishes all these feats while being a modest, humble and generally awesome guy.

The goal for our session together was to get a few various looks and combine that with some great head and profile shots. Greg has a great PR team working with him in the Behan posse (Alex and Janis), so we’re sure that these pictures will be put to great use.

Greg aside, if you’re reading this post and you’re a poker player or a hockey player – at Greg’s level, lower, whatever – we’d like to throw an open invitation your way to either A) Setup a poker game with Nordica so we can take all your money or B) Setup a time for a photography session to get some killer headshots. We’ve more or less decided that poker players and hockey players are swell guys, so we’d be fired right up if we could work with them more in the future!

The couple’s story is they met at Capilano while studying back in the day, and have been together ever since. With that in mind, they wanted to get pictures where it all began for them. We went to the classroom where they first met one another, and carried on the photography to various spots around the campus that were meaningful to them.

We also spent a little time learning the ropes to checkers. There was an outdoor table set up, and we got the chance to actually learn the rules. We had played prior to meeting Sherry and Nick, but were clueless to how the game is played. So, we used that as a great excuse to have them play together!

This was a very special shoot for sure. We had never done anything in the North Shore Mountains before this, but we’ll definitely being using that neck of the woods again for future couple shoots.

Many moons ago, we had a Twitter contest where we gave our wedding photography services away for free. It was well-received and we had quite a few entries, and the winning couple was Holly and Phillip from Abbotsford. If you missed the contest, you can click here to learn more about how we did it.

Well folks, we did their wedding last weekend! It was a lovely wedding and the settings were gorgeous. A cool old church, an old school that was built in the early 1900′s and a gorgeous lake setting. It was great!

We have some more editing to do, so for today, we are just putting up this picture as a teaser. We’ll post’em when they’re done!
