Wedding Coffee Table Books | Vancouver Wedding Photographers

Wedding photography is a funny thing because there are two different sides of the same coin involved with job: The wedding day photography itself, and then the hours of work in front of a computer after the wedding day.

Luckily for us, we love both sides of the coin.

So, one part of the ‘staring at the computer’ process that we especially enjoy after weddings is the design part, and more specifically designing wedding books.

This is something we offer all couples we shoot for, and we strongly encourage them to get these customize made little suckers. Looking at pictures of yourself in an awesome coffee table book is something special!

Wedding books are also great for showing your family and friends afterwards, and they’re just a nice and tangible way to hold your memories. After all, you’re not always going to have a laptop kicking around to show off your sexy wedding photos!

So here’s an example. This is Sanna and Jan, a Finnish couple, and a few snapshots of their wedding coffee table book.

Just to give a very brief feel for what you can expect from these portrait shoots, Mr Jakob Granqvist tortured Madame Therese Larsson and I for a while and came up with these (I as in Cole :) ). I’m not a fan of having my picture being taken, but sacrificed my sanity for the sake of this blog post, and also for the sake of my lovely girlfriend Therese (Brownie points! Yes!).

Really though, we are jumping out of our skin hoping to do more of these types of shoots. Working with couples like this is a great way to not only hone our skills and get us geared up for being the best Vancouver Wedding Photographer duo we can be, but also it’s a cool gift for Valentines Day. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we wanted to remind our little web world that we are working together with the 100 Mile Angels and offering a cool Valentine’s Day special!

In a nutshell, any couple can purchase (or have purchased for them!) an hour of photography with two photographers at any Lower Mainland location. We’ll juice up the pictures and in the end, you’ll have gorgeous photos and – this is the kicker – you’ll have made a donation to Breast Cancer Research. Not bad eh?

Therese Larsson is a beauty. And she’s great at accounting.

She’s a Swedish lady who you may have seen a time or two popping up on Cole’s site, and now she’s going to keep us in line with the books! So, if you have accounting issues to deal with when dealing with Nordica this lovely lady is who’ll you speak to!

Status Update

It’s 2010 and Nordica Photography is ready to take on new challenges. However, there have been some mishaps that delayed our start.

Parts of the Nordica team, Cole and our accountant Therese were supposed to arrive in Vancouver on the 6th, but are still stuck in London due to a snowstorm. They will (hopefully) be arriving late night on the 9th.

Meanwhile, the remaining part of the team, Jakob is still waiting for his luggage (with camera gear) to arrive from Seattle.

Engagement Portraits | Rasmus & Caroline

FAQ | Our Favourite Portrait Lenses

We often get questions about what lenses we use and which lenses to use in which situations. The latter is hard to answer, since all photographers work in their own ways with their own favourite lenses. The first part is easier though, since we mostly use only two lenses:

TheÂ Nikon 50mm f/1,4 and theÂ Nikon 85mm f/1,8.

Both of these are great for what we’re mostly shooting -Â people. Both of them are also great in low light situations if you – like us – strive to avoid the flash. The 50mm f/1,4 is especially good because of the low f-stop. (There is a 85mm f/1,4 as well. We’d love to get our hands on it).

These two are prime lenses, that is:Â no zoom. They are 50 and 85 mm and that’s it, which means you have to use your feet for zooming. This did bother us a bit when we first started using them since we were used to zooms, but as we saw the results and got used to moving around instead of zooming, we were sold.Â We’ll never go back.Â The pictures are that much better.

Another advantage with these two lenses is the size -Â they’re small. Put a zoom lens on your camera and it’s usually huge and heavy. With these prime lenses it’s not.

The 50mm f/1,4 is definitely our favourite lens right now. We could easily shoot a whole wedding with that lens alone. It’s around $500-600 (somewhere around 4000 SEK or 400 EUR, for international readers) and is very much worth the money. There’s also a 50mm f/1,8 that’s less than half the price and also great for portraits and low light situations.

Additionally we have aÂ Sigma 20mm f/1,8, a Sigma 18-50mm f/2,8 aÂ Nikon 70-300mm f/4,5-5,6, and aÂ Tamron 90mm f/2,8 Macro. They are all good lenses for different purposes and we use them every once in a while, but for people photography the 50mm and the 85mm are our most frequently used ones.
