Iceland Wedding Photographer

Hallie and Halden’s Iceland wedding brought us back to one of our favourite locations in the country: Hótel Búðir on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We have photographed at Búðir multiple times now, and each visit reminds us why the venue continues to draw couples from around the world. The hotel sits on the edge of a lava field facing the Atlantic, with the black church of Búðakirkja standing alone against the coastal landscape. For an Iceland wedding photographer, few locations combine ceremony, reception, and portrait opportunities as seamlessly as this one.

Hótel Búðir and Búðakirkja

The ceremony at Búðakirkja is always a powerful experience. The church is small and dark inside, lit by candles and the natural light that comes through the narrow windows. Stepping outside after the ceremony, the contrast between the intimate interior and the vast coastal landscape creates a moment that every couple reacts to. Hallie and Halden chose to keep their guest list small, which suited the church perfectly. After the ceremony, the celebration moved into Hótel Búðir for dinner, where the dining room looks out over the lava field and the sea beyond.

The portrait session took us along the coastline and into the lava field itself. The moss-covered rock, the distant silhouette of Snæfellsjökull glacier, and the changing Icelandic sky provided a backdrop that shifted with every step. Hallie and Halden were natural and at ease throughout, and their willingness to explore the landscape on foot gave us access to compositions that a more cautious couple might miss.

Returning to Snæfellsnes

Every time we return to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, we find new angles and new light. The coastline between Búðir and Arnarstapi offers basalt sea cliffs, hidden coves, and views that change dramatically with the weather. For couples considering an Iceland wedding, Snæfellsnes provides a more intimate alternative to the popular south coast while delivering equally extraordinary landscapes. We will never grow tired of visiting Hótel Búðir, the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and living the dream of being an Iceland wedding photographer.

By now, it’s no secret we’ve been there a few times and in all honesty, we consider ourselves lucky every single time. We’re awe-struck with each visit, and each time it feels completely different.

What feels different – aside from the dramatic weather – are the couples who we get to explore with. The conversations are always different, the random spots we find together, and the surprises along the way.

Hallie and Haldon came over from the States, and from meeting over breakfast through to saying farewell, everything felt right. Our shared interest in marketing and business topics was a nice surprise, so geeking out over event apps and online marketing made the conversations throughout the day interesting. Envision talking about how to get people to network at a conference through an app with a glacier in the background – stuff like that.
