Pick of the week // Five
When we do portraits, whether it’s engagement photos or wedding portraits, we always have a route scouted with a bunch of locations. We do the sessions in a very casual manner, walk from spot to spot and take a whole whack of pictures at each location.
We enjoy doing the sessions and the couples usually do too.
We don’t really plan much more though, so it’s always interesting to see whether the locations work out as good as they do in our heads. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.
And every once in a while they work even better than planned.
The photo above is one of those.
It’s actually a dead simple location. Jen and Scott are standing on the shore of a river on a cloudy day, looking at Cole as he’s taking their portrait. I’m on their right shooting through a bench. So the bottom part of the photo – what looks like mist – is actually a very much blurred out bottom part of a bench. And the background is the river.
I like how isolated and surrounded by emptiness they appear to be.
