2012 Wedding Photography

This year began with a simple priority: re-do our website. To start the process, we met with a storyteller, and after our first meeting he gave us homework. He wanted to learn about Nordica’s character and, to be honest, so did we.

 

The storyteller gave us a long lists of words, and a task: We were to each choose twelve words that we felt described Nordica’s character. Then narrow that list down to eight words. Then to five. And from the five, choose one word each.

This basic task was harder than it sounds, especially since we had no idea what the other guy was thinking and whether we would actually agree on what we thought Nordica was. In the end, we narrowed our lists down to two words that complimented each other well.

Jakob’s word was competence. Cole’s was ambitious.

Competence and ambitious. Two words that are perfect for what we think Nordica should be.

When we were named one of the Top 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography by Rangefinder Magazine, the first thing we shared in the interview was our belief in telling the personal story of a wedding day. We truly think that is what’s most important, and refining that skill is what we focused most on throughout 2012. Being competent storytellers is what’s most important for us.

And we’re ambitious in many ways. Not only in being better storytellers with every single wedding, but also in our urge to travel the world for weddings. When we started Nordica in 2009, one of our main goals were to travel. We wanted to tell stories from across the globe. And in 2012, the fruits of our labour have started to pay off. African safaris, rice fields in Bali, abandoned army bases in Iceland, sunrise ceremonies in the Dominican, secluded ranches in Western Canada, castles in Italy and France, Swedish summer nights; 2012 took us places we surely couldn’t have imagined three years earlier.

But 2012 is behind us. We’re even more confident with our vision, and where we want to go, and we’ll keep climbing the mountain.
