A REYKJANES ENGAGEMENTKim & Daniel

September 3, 2023

Kim and Daniel came to the Reykjanes peninsula for their engagement session, dressed like the wedding had already started.

Reykjanes is the first bit of Iceland most people see and the last bit they bother with, the raw volcanic corner the airport sits on. Lucky for anyone who does stop: lava fields, sea cliffs, geothermal steam, Icelandic horses, and hardly another soul in the middle of it.

An engagement shoot is a strange, low-stakes joy: no ceremony to run to, no timeline, just two people who have decided on each other, out for a few hours in a landscape that makes everyone look small. Kim and Daniel spent it climbing sea cliffs, meeting horses, and standing in the steam of a place that is still, geologically speaking, half-built.

The green

It began on the mossy edge of the peninsula, where the lava has had a few centuries to soften.

The horses

There were horses, of course. There are always horses.

The cliffs

Then out to the cliffs, where the land just stops and drops into the Atlantic.

The steam

And the steam, because Reykjanes is one of the places where you can watch the planet let off pressure.

The sea

They finished on the black shore, under the sea stacks, with the waves coming in hard.

An engagement shoot is a promise more than a party, and Reykjanes is a fitting place to make one: raw, unfinished, quietly spectacular. If you are planning a Reykjanes engagement or elopement of your own, I would love to be there for it. Come for the steam, stay for the sea cliffs.
