A SNÆFELLSNES ELOPEMENTKlara Jenný & Siddy

April 15, 2023

Klara Jenný and Siddy eloped out on Snæfellsnes, on a day of fog, black rock and, at one point, a field of horses.

Snæfellsnes is the peninsula they call ‘Iceland in miniature’, because it has a bit of everything crammed into one long finger of land: a glacier at the tip, lava fields, black beaches, sea stacks, green mossy cliffs, and enough weather to fill a week. Klara Jenný and Siddy spent a day working their way along it.

It was a moody place on a moody day, low cloud sitting on the water and the black rock slick and dark, which suited them. Some couples want blue skies. These two looked most at home when it was grey and dramatic and a little ominous, which Snæfellsnes has in abundance.

The coast

They started out at the far end, where the peninsula runs out into sea stacks and black sand.

The horses

Then, because it is Iceland, there were horses. There was also a dog.

The mountains and the mist

The rest of the day ran inland and upward, into mountains, mist, and one very black church.

No guests to speak of, no schedule, just Klara Jenný and Siddy and the moodiest peninsula in Iceland to themselves. If a Snæfellsnes elopement in the grey and the black rock sounds more like your day than a garden full of chairs, this is one of the best places on earth for it. Bring good boots, and someone who likes weather as much as you do.
