Fujifilm GFX for Weddings

Fujifilm GFX for Weddings

In 2016 we became X-Photographers with Fujifilm, and since then the partnership has shaped how we approach our work. When Fujifilm introduced the GFX medium format system, we were among the first wedding photographers to take it into the field. The question we kept hearing was whether a medium format camera could handle the demands of a wedding day, and after years of shooting with the GFX system our answer is unequivocal: yes, and the results are worth it.

Medium Format at Weddings

The Fujifilm GFX sensor captures detail, colour, and tonal range that is visibly different from full-frame cameras. Skin tones are richer, the depth of field transitions are smoother, and the files hold an extraordinary amount of information in the highlights and shadows. For wedding photography, where you are often working in challenging mixed light and need to deliver images that feel both natural and polished, the GFX sensor provides a foundation that makes post-processing more forgiving and the final results more refined. The difference is most noticeable in large prints and album spreads, where the medium format files reveal a three-dimensionality that smaller sensors cannot match.

Why We Chose Fujifilm

Beyond the image quality, the Fujifilm system aligns with how we work. The colour science is exceptional straight out of camera, the lenses are sharp and well corrected, and the bodies are compact enough to carry through a full wedding day without fatigue. The film simulations (particularly Classic Chrome and PRO Neg Hi) give us a starting point for our editing that reduces processing time and maintains consistency across hundreds of images. For destination wedding photographers who travel with their gear, the size and weight advantage of the GFX system over traditional medium format is significant.

If you are a photographer considering the move to Fujifilm or to medium format, or a couple curious about how our gear choices affect your final images, we are happy to discuss it. Get in touch. See the Fujifilm GFX in action across our wedding photography: a Dolomites elopement, Hótel Búðir, Iceland, and Lake Como, Italy.

In 2016 we became X-Photographers with FujiFilm – meaning we are ambassadors for the brand – which is a big thing in our world. With this title came opportunities to try new things.

Enter the video below and the Fujifilm GFX 50S camera.

Without going into details, the GFX is a new medium format camera in Fuji’s lineup and a big deal in the photography world.

Fujifilm asked us to create a short story about the camera, and gave us free reigns. They didn’t restrict us in any way, and we’re so grateful for that. We went to one of our favourite cities, Rome, with a filmmaker we trust – Maru Films. We had a day to explore, and the final product is what you see below.

Living in Large was the theme throughout the adventure and for photographers considering this camera, you’ll know what we mean if you ever get your hands on the files from this camera.

Here are some of the images from our time with Irene and Andrea in Rome. All shot with the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

Beautiful gallery. The most important thing is the magic of the moment and the eye+technique of the photographer. The camera is just a tool. Great work of Nordica team and Fuji.

I am very excited about this camera. Almost willing to make the jump from Canon, but need to get it in my hands first. Thanks for the review and great samples!

Incredible images. After a few years of building up my Canon gear I'm so hesitant to change, but travelling with a DSLR set is exhausting. Watching this video really has made me want to test out a Fuji.
