SUNRISE IN COPENHAGENIrene & Jan

January 19, 2026

Irene and Jan were driving home to Italy from Norway when they stopped in Copenhagen. Their ride deserves its own paragraph, and it gets one below. The alarm went off before four, and by the time the sky started to burn we were standing on a jetty at the edge of the city.

If you are thinking about eloping in Copenhagen, this is the argument: the sea is everywhere, the light comes up gently, and at sunrise the whole city belongs to the two of you.

Before four in the morning

Copenhagen sunrise sessions start early because the reward is absurd. The streets are empty and the harbour light is at its best before anyone else is up.

The caravan

About that caravan. It has been in Jan’s family since before he was born: his mum bought it while she was pregnant with him, and four decades later it carried Irene and Jan from Italy to Norway and back.

So of course it came into the pictures. And somewhere between the caravan steps and the seawall, Irene produced a ukulele. Some couples plan props for a session. The best ones just show up with their actual life.

Out to the water

Then we went back to the water. Copenhagen is a sea city before it is anything else, and at five in the morning the coast is all mirror and pastel.

By seven, Irene and Jan were on the road south with the whole day still ahead of them. If Copenhagen is the plan, there are two versions: the city version, like Suzan and Jacob’s elopement, and this one, out where the sea starts. Both begin with an alarm clock and end with a full day left to celebrate. If it is a bigger day you have in mind, there is a full wedding in Copenhagen too. I would love to be there for yours.
