THE SECOND ISLANDKasia & Kostek
Kasia and Kostek got married on São Miguel. I photographed that day, and before I flew home we were already talking about doing it again. A year later it happened: Mallorca. Same two people, second island, and a route I had been wanting to shoot for a long time. The plan ran from sunrise at Capdepera Lighthouse on the easternmost tip of the island, inland to the old Raixa estate, up to Valldemossa, and finished with sunset on the cliffs at Cala del Toro. A full day that crossed the island corner to corner.

Capdepera is the first place on Mallorca to see the sun. We had the headland to ourselves: one lighthouse, a lot of rock, and a sky that went from pink to gold over the sea. This is why I always push for a sunrise start. The light is the best of the whole day, and nobody else is awake to share it with.

There was no timeline and no shot list. When a spot is working I stay in it, and this stretch of coast, all agave and pale rock and low morning sun, was working.
From the coast we drove inland to Raixa, an old estate at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains. The gardens are grand and Italian, but the room I wanted was upstairs: blue walls, a lattice window of coloured glass, and light that lands on the floor in red, green and blue diamonds. We stayed until the sun moved off the window.

Valldemossa came next. It is probably the most photographed village on Mallorca, with stone lanes, shuttered windows and flower pots climbing every wall, and it earns the attention. We walked, and I photographed whatever happened.

For sunset we drove out to Cala del Toro, where sandstone cliffs drop straight into the sea and the rock turns a deep orange in the last hour of light. We climbed down, found a ledge above the water, and stayed until the sun was gone.

If you are looking for a Mallorca elopement photographer, this is the shape of day I love to build: one full day, sunrise to sunset, no venue required. The photographs can also be ready the same evening, straight out of camera, if that appeals to you the way it appeals to me. Get in touch. And if you want to see more of the island first, here is the north of Mallorca with Monika and Łukasz.
