Bröllopsfotograf Gävle
We’ve joked for years that Cole would never photograph a wedding at home in Gävle. Thankfully, when Mikala and Patrick Googled Bröllopsfotograf Gävle, found our website and reached out, the jinx was over. We finally had a local wedding in Gävle.
The Story of Mikaela & Patrick
Normally after we photograph a wedding, we’ll ask couple’s to describe their wedding. It’s a better way to convey the context of the story, and we loved what Mikaela and Patrick shared about their day.
We live in London so decided to get married where Mikaela was born in Gavle. We wanted those travelling from England to see the very best of Sweden, so there was lots of schnapps, songs, crayfish and meatballs. The day itself surpassed all our expectations, and we were already expecting it to be the best day of our lives.
It was Pride weekend in Gavle, so the church was draped in rainbow flags, which we both loved. We felt the wedding soak up the carnival atmosphere. Late in the evening, Cole surprised us with a giant print of a beautiful picture he’d taken of us just hours earlier. We were blown away by that.
Anyways, onto the story. The day started at Grand Hotel in Gävle, before moving over to Soldathemmet via Boulognerskogen. Enjoy!
The summer light in Gävle is long and generous. In late June the sun barely sets, and the golden hour stretches well past midnight. For Mikaela and Patrick’s wedding, this meant we could photograph relaxed portraits outdoors late into the evening without losing the light. The parks and waterfront areas near the city centre offered natural backdrops that required no staging, and the couple moved through each location with the ease of people genuinely enjoying themselves. Swedish summer weddings have a rhythm of their own, unhurried and warm, and this one captured that perfectly.
Grand Hotel Gävle and Soldathemmet
The day began at Grand Hotel in the centre of Gävle, one of the city’s most elegant buildings. Getting ready in a proper hotel with good light and generous space always sets the tone for the photography, and Grand Hotel delivered. From there, the ceremony took place at the church in town, which happened to be draped in rainbow flags for Pride weekend. After the ceremony, we moved to Soldathemmet for the reception. Soldathemmet is a historic building with a warm, rustic character that suited the evening perfectly. The combination of the formal hotel, the festive church, and the relaxed reception venue gave the day a natural arc that flowed from one mood to the next.
Gävle as a Wedding Destination
Gävle sits on the coast of central Sweden, about 90 minutes north of Stockholm by train. The city has a mix of old wooden architecture, waterfront parks, and the nearby Boulognerskogen park, which is one of the most beautiful green spaces in the region. For couples with a connection to the area, Gävle offers an intimate alternative to the larger Swedish cities. Mikaela and Patrick live in London but chose to return to the place where Mikaela was born, and that personal connection gave every location on the day a deeper significance. As a bröllopsfotograf in Gävle, this was a rare home wedding for us, and the familiarity with the city allowed us to move through the day with a confidence that comes from knowing the light, the streets, and the best spots for portraits.
Tack Mikaela och Patrick för att vi fick vara med på er dag. It was a privilege to photograph a wedding at home, and you two made it one to remember.
