Sheena and Daniel’s wedding at Villa Soludden in Värmdö was a rare Stockholm archipelago celebration for us. We photograph destination weddings across Europe and beyond, but a wedding at home in Stockholm’s skärgård carries a different kind of significance. Värmdö is one of the larger islands in the archipelago, connected to the mainland by bridge, and Villa Soludden sits on the waterfront with views across the Baltic that stretch to the outer islands.

Villa Soludden, Värmdö

Villa Soludden is a classic Swedish archipelago property with white-painted timber buildings, manicured gardens, and a jetty that extends into the water. The venue has been a popular wedding location for years, and its appeal lies in the combination of elegance and relaxed coastal atmosphere. The ceremony took place outdoors with the water behind, and the reception moved between the gardens and the interior spaces as the evening progressed. The styling was handled by Fanny Staaf, and the attention to detail throughout the day was evident in every element, from the table settings to the floral arrangements.

As a bröllopsfotograf in Stockholm, the archipelago light in summer is one of the best things about working here. The sun stays low and warm for hours, and the reflections off the water add a luminosity to portraits that is distinctive to the skärgård. Sheena and Daniel’s evening portraits along the shoreline captured this quality perfectly, with the soft golden light lasting well past dinner.

Sheena and Daniel’s wedding was NYC-meets-Sweden as Sheena comes from the States and Daniel here in Sweden. Sheena brought over her family, and some cultural flair as well. For example, ending the ceremony by jumping over a broomstick – who knew?

This was our first time working alongside Fanny Staaf, who styled and planned the day. An additional first was experiencing Villa Soludden, which is a perfect little venue located in Värmdö. Finally, big thanks to Jhonny from Clarity who was a big help in assisting with telling the story of the day.
