HORSES & CHAMPAGNEMaja & Marko
Maja and Marko drove up from Croatia for this one. The day started before sunrise at Passo Giau, which we shared with a passing crowd of hikers who had the same idea about the light. From Giau the plan went to Prato Piazza around midday, and finished on the shore of Lago di Braies. Somewhere in the middle there were wild horses and a bottle of champagne.

Prato Piazza is an open plateau below Croda Rossa, and the horses that graze up there walked straight into the session. Nobody arranged that. Maja stood still, the black one came to her, and for a while we let the horses decide the photographs. Then the champagne came out.

We finished at Lago di Braies, on the quiet side of the lake, away from the boathouse queue. The water does that colour on its own. By then the light had gone soft, and the last frames of the day are Maja alone on the rocks, in black and white.

One day, three of the most famous places in the range, and no rushing between them. That is the job as I see it as a Dolomites wedding photographer, and my guide to getting married in the Dolomites covers the where and the how of doing it yourself. There is more from these mountains in Kim and Denim’s day from Tre Cime to Cortina. Get in touch if you want a day like this one.
