Lofoten Elopement // Ashlie & Brian
Lofoten Elopement
Ashlie and Brian’s Lofoten elopement took us through some of the most striking landscapes in northern Norway, from the fishing village of Reine to the beaches and mountain roads around Leknes. Lofoten has become one of our most-requested elopement destinations, and every time we return the islands reveal something new. The combination of dramatic peaks rising from the sea, sheltered bays, and the ever-changing Arctic light makes Lofoten one of the most visually rich locations we photograph in.
Reine and Leknes
Reine is often described as the most beautiful village in Norway, and it is easy to understand why. The red rorbuer cabins sit at the base of towering granite peaks, and the harbour reflects the mountains on still days. We used Reine as a starting point for Ashlie and Brian’s session, photographing along the waterfront and on the surrounding trails before moving west toward Leknes. The road between the two towns follows the coastline, with pull-offs that offer views of beaches, bridges, and the open Norwegian Sea. Each stop brought a different composition, and the variety within a short drive is one of the things that makes Lofoten so rewarding for elopement photography.
The beaches near Leknes, particularly Haukland and Uttakleiv, are broad stretches of white sand backed by mountains. In summer, the midnight sun illuminates these beaches from a low angle that creates long shadows and warm tones across the sand. Ashlie and Brian walked the shoreline together as the light moved across the peaks, and the scale of the mountains behind the beach gave every frame a sense of scale that is unique to the Lofoten archipelago.
Eloping in Lofoten
Lofoten sits above the Arctic Circle off the northwest coast of Norway. The islands are connected by bridges and tunnels, making them easy to explore by car despite their remote location. Flights from Oslo to Leknes or Svolver take around two hours, and from there the entire archipelago is accessible within a day. For couples considering a Lofoten elopement, the key decision is timing: summer offers midnight sun and green mountains, while winter brings snow, northern lights, and a moody atmosphere. We photograph in Lofoten year-round and can help with location planning. Get in touch. The first time we photographed a Lofoten elopement was Sirena and Eric’s breathtaking adventure and we’ve been hooked on the jewel of the Arctic since. Sure, we’ve experienced it at it’s darkest, coldest, iciest worst, but even those have been amazing experiences. Blustery cold or gloriously golden, we love this amazing cluster of Norwegian islands.
Lofoten Elopement
This adventure just happened to be on the gloriously golden end of the spectrum. Ashlie and Brian travelled from Massachusetts with adventure on their mind, and they certainly got it. Specifically, they wanted to experience the vast, scenic nature Lofoten has to offer, and let that guide the adventure through a spirited day of hiking and exploring.
This open-mindedness and spontaneous approach suites us perfectly when we meet couples for these adventures. Because, in all honesty, we hardly plan what we’re going to do and let the spirit of the adventure take over. We share in the excitement of finding new locations, hiking new hills, and seeing where we end up together.
Ashlie and Brian were game on for this, so it was a perfect match for a wild adventure in Lofoten.
