TWO HOURS IN ROMESasha & Matteo

Sasha and Matteo had their wedding photographs before dinner. Most couples wait weeks for a gallery to land in their inbox; these two were still out walking Rome when theirs arrived. Black and white, straight out of the camera, nothing touched afterwards. They had two hours free in the afternoon, so we met by the Forum and finished at the Colosseum once the sun had gone.

The Forum itself needs a ticket and shuts before the light gets good. The terrace above it does not, and that is where these were made, with the columns of the Temple of Saturn holding the last of the sun. Sasha walked it in trainers with the dress hitched up. Matteo carried her shoes as far as the steps.

These frames are exactly as the camera made them. A couple of the crops are off. One or two exposures are wrong. That is the trade, and I would make it again: most photographs online now have been smoothed, upscaled or generated into something with no flaws left in it, and the small mistakes in these are the evidence that two people stood in that light while it lasted.
